Murphy’s Spiegeltent Presents Jape

The Cork Midsummer Festival kicks off this Saturday (June 11th) with the Murphy’s Spiegeltent opening its doors on June 14th with performances from Camille O’Sullivan and the West Cork Ukulele Orchestra.

The following night (Wednesday June 15th) will see Jape, the overall winner of the 2009 Choice Music Prize,  make his Cork Midsummer Festival bow.

Jape, who originally began as a mere side project for The Redneck Manifesto‘s Richie Egan, bring a mix of electronica, pop and rock to the table but are also well capable of catching a crowd with some tender, stripped down moments when the mood strikes. Those who think they may be unfamiliar with the band may very well already know at least one of their tunes with single “Floating” receiving plenty of airplay and has since been covered by international acts such as The Raconteurs and Soulwax.

The Dublin band have recently confirmed Ocean Of Frequency, the follow-up to 2008’s Ritual, will be released in September and a couple of tracks from the new album are available to stream below.

Doors are open at 10pm and tickets, priced at €17, are available via the Cork Midsummer Festival box office, Plugd Records (both located in the Triskel Arts Centre on Tobin Street) or the official website here Description

Support on the night will be provided by Cork electro trip-hop band Alterosa.
