New Release Highlights December 2nd 2011 (December 5th for the UK)

The G-Man Release Of The Week is :

Drawing of Threes by Desertshore

Indie/alternative/rock releases are rare this time of year but there is always the odd gem that tries its very best to sneak through the crack in the door which this year comes in the shape of Drawing of Threes.

Former Red House Painters guitarist Phil Carney and classically-trained pianist Chris Connolly aka Desertshore released the impressive instrumental album Drifting Your Majesty in 2010. The end of 2011 sees the duo return with Drawing of Threes which sees RHP (and current Sun Kil Moon - both amazing bands. Check them out!) frontman Mark Kozelek guest as both vocalist and bass player on quite a number of tracks adding his usual mesmerising effect.

'Diana' and 'Mercy', the first two songs on the album, can be streamed here.

Other ditties/releases of note this weekend including a few releases from last weekend when I was off galavanting, jazz-style...

Tunng - This Is Tunng...Live from the BBC

The Black Keys - El Camino

Bob Dylan - Life & Life Only - Rare TV & Radio performances

The Roots - undun

Stream undun here.

*If anyone is about Cork I recommend popping in to Jim and Albert in Plugd Records. The new store is up and running on Tobin Street as part of the new Triskel Arts Centre and you can even have a cup of tea and a bite to eat in their new café, Gulpd.

If you are located elsewhere I strongly recommend picking up at least one album when you can from your local independent store. Most independents now take orders by email and post out the stock if you are unable to get to the store so it may be worth checking out.

Current list of independent record stores in the Republic of Ireland (obviously still a work in progress):
