New Release Highlights for November 11th 2011 (November 14th for the UK)

The G-Man Release Of The Week is :

Former The Coral guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones ventues into the solo world with something quite unexpected : an album that would not be entirely out of place in the classical section of your local music store which I suppose should not be too much of a surprise seeing as he has spent the last few years recording a selection of soundtracks. It is also a record that I am growing to love a tiny bit more day by day. If you were not a fan of BRJ’s former band (I definitely had a soft spot for the scousers) then no worries as they couldn’t be more different. But good different. Think Rachel Grimes different…

*If anyone is about Cork I recommend popping in to Jim and Albert in Plugd Records. The new store is up and running on Tobin Street as part of the new Triskel Arts Centre and you can even have a cup of tea and a bite to eat in their new café, Gulpd.

If you are located elsewhere I strongly recommend picking up at least one album when you can from your local independent store. Most independents now take orders by email and post out the stock if you are unable to get to the store so it may be worth checking out.

Current list of independent record stores in the Republic of Ireland (obviously still a work in progress):
