The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band
One last post before I go jazzing. You heard me right. Jazzing all over the place I will be from 6pm until late on Halloween night.*
Don't forget to check out the gig guide by clicking here. It may prove to be handy for those peeps with smart-phones instead of those pesky newspaper pullouts. Great to see the Triskel getting a good solid mention over on the Irish Times too (see here).
These guys will be ripping it up on Sunday afternoon in the Crane Lane (site seems to be down for some reason) at 3pm and I will be quite surprised if they are not fecking deadly. The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band.
*Optimism and energy levels may make this statement completely obsolete come Monday morning

Bombay Bicycle Club upgrades and additional dates
The demand for Bombay Bicycle Club has been so great that the band have had to add a second Dublin date (they will now play Vicar Street on December 5th AND 6th). On top of that the Cyprus Avenue show in Cork has been upgraded to The Savoy.
The G-Man Playlist Of The Day : Jazz Special
What better way to kick off the Cork Jazz weekend than with a bumper playlist with videos from twenty artists who will perform on Leeside over the next few days.
Still not sure what venues/bands to check out? Click here for a G-Man Jazz gig guide.
Happy jazz everybody!

The G-Man Interview w/ Amiina
*An edited version of the below interview appeared in the Downtown supplement of Cork's Evening Echo on Thursday, October 13th.
Discovering Amiina is akin to lifting the lid on some kind of marvelous celestial music box. The majestic Icelandic group, who first attracted critical acclaim as the exalted string section for compatriots Sigur Ros, are set to enchant their Cork audience on October 30th by conjuring magical melodies from an assortment of odd and wonderful instruments including saws, glasses, harps and various forms of zithers (look that one up).
Amiina’s María (full name María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir) recently took time out from the band’s hectic schedule to answer a few questions I had bubbling on my mind...

Tasty Cork and Dublin combo to hit An Realt Dearg
Popical Island, the Dublin DIY musical collective we all know and love not to mention home to Tieranniesaur, Yeh Deadlies, Squarehead and more , have cooked up an excellent post-Jazz weekend show for all of us located down south. Land Lovers (who recently poured the perfectly poptastic Confidants all over a jam-packed Crawdaddy as part of the official album launch) will combine with Cork's pyschaelic, shoegazing shamans - The Altered Hours

Great Expectations by Sí - Exclusive Stream of the entire album
This is pretty much a duplicate post but I just wanted to leave it as the last post before we head into the weekend.
Recorded over a two year period in Bunker Hill studios with Fergal Lawler (The Cranberries), The G-Man is very proud to present Great Expectations from Síle Ní Dhubhghaill, aka Sí.
Dark, sepulchral folk that could have been carved from the trunk of an ancient tree, Sí's debut is filled with a tenderness that is not as common as one would like these days. That is not to say the album is all sweetness and light : the brooding piano of the title track 'Great Expectations' and the honest yet defiant lyrics of 'Say' confirm this songstress is not exactly one for sugar-coating.
Some of the lyrics may be dark ("Can you hold me without holding me down because if you do I think I''ll drown you" from 'Song in D') but that is not to say the record ever approaches "gloomy" territory. If anything that has to do with the elegant sounds of Sí's harp which is as dominant (if not more) a sound on the recording as the piano. For me personally, the album reaches a peak when both are used together resulting in my favourite tune : 'I Was Made of Stars'.
Thanks to a very successful www.fundit.ie campaign Great Expectations will receive a physical release at the end of October 2011 which will coincide with a number of live dates confirmed for Cork, Limerick and Wexford (and more to be announced).
Tour dates :
October 27th - Support for Laura Sheeran (Dublin - To Be Confirmed)
November 6th - Upstairs in Dolan's (Limerick)
