New Release Highlights January 13th (Jan 16th for the UK)

The G-Man Release Of The Week is :

Future This by The Big Pink

Electro-popheads The Big Pink made quite a splash when A Brief History of Love soaked the music world with their anthemic, almost stadium rockish form of electronica back in 2009.

Future This pretty much follows the “If it isn’t broke then don’t fix it” rule to a tee. Robbie [Furze] and Milo [Cordell] may take a little longer to get to the point in the verse (to a positive effect) but they still arrive at the big, repeat-the-same-line choruses (case in point ‘Hit The Ground Superman’) but those same lines are damn infectious.

Nothing earth-changing but that has never been a way to rate an album in music fan’s humble opinion. All in all – it’s good to have new music from The Big Pink.

*If anyone is about Cork I recommend popping in to Jim and Albert in Plugd Records. The new store is up and running on Tobin Street as part of the new Triskel Arts Centre and you can even have a cup of tea and a bite to eat in their new café, Gulpd.

If you are located elsewhere I strongly recommend picking up at least one album when you can from your local independent store. Most independents now take orders by email and post out the stock if you are unable to get to the store so it may be worth checking out.

Current list of independent record stores in the Republic of Ireland (obviously still a work in progress):
