Oxegen organiser's decision to leave the Punchestown fallow this July came as a shock to many. Others saw it as a golden opportunity. One such festival hoping to make hay while the sun (hopefully) shines is the Westport Festival of Music and Performing Arts which takes place in Mayo on the second last weekend of June.
Aimed at a slightly older generation, the new festival has already confirmed quite a host of legendary acts including The Kinks' Ray Davies, The Waterboys, The Dubliners, recently revitalised Nick Lowe and Jools Holland. More current acts named to play Westport House in early Summer include Seasick Steve, Imelda May, The Lost Brothers, Duke Special.
Could be a nice day out to the west for those who are into something a little different to what is on offer at Ballinlough Castle that same weekend.
