Record Store Day: Cork Gig Guide (April 16th-22nd)

Plugd Records celebrates its first anniversary with Record Store Day celebrations drawing to a close in Triskel Arts Centre with performances from The Jimmy Cake, Melodica Deathship and Nanu Nanu. Should be one heck of a day AND night.

Saturday again in Cork is pretty manic with Cork Rocks The House (with Slow Motion Heroes, The Dave Nelligan Thing and more) taking over Cork Opera House; Choice-nominated We Cut Corners in Cyprus Avenue (8pm); and Le Galaxie getting folk dancing into the late hours (with support from Carried By Waves) in The Pavilion.

Further afield Declan O’Rourke and Clive Barnes, with Maeve Higgins on MC duties, entertaining on a hopefully sunny day in Kinsale’s in St. Mulrose Church and Terror Pop (formerly Agitate The Gravel) take to the stage in the Pine Lodge (Myrtleville).

Saturday may supply this week’s peak but there are plenty of tasty gigs to chomp into with Belfast-bred Cashier No. 9‘s rescheduled Cyprus Avenue taking place on Thursday and Kormac’s Big Band (with a little help from friends The West Cork Ukelele Orchestra) in Cork Opera House the following night.

Sore hands on Sunday should still be braved with Catskill Mountains native Simone Felice mixing new solo material with Felice Brothers classics in Cyprus Avenue. Mick Flannery brings his number one, Madonna-masterplan-meddling record Red To Blue to the Opera House that same night.
