Capital Capers and Elsewhere Escapades May 16th-May 22nd

Sharon Van Etten

The sparkliest jewel in Jagjaguwar‘s glistening crown since the turn of the year, Sharon Van Etten visits Whelan’s on Friday night in what could be one of those “she’s big now but I got to see her when she played Whelo’s” kind of moments.

2012’s Tramp is one of the best records released so far this year and her appearance on Wexford Street this weekend is hands down the gig of the week.

Other highlights include that nutty jumpsuit-wearin’ one man band Bob Log III in The Grand Social (tonight – Wednesday), an excellent Cork-grown double-header featuring Terror Pop (formerly Agitate The Gravel) and Saint Yorda upstairs in Whelan’s (Thursday), Popicalia #15 showcasing new signings/friends Dott‘s EP launch in Eamonn Doran’s Tavern on the Green (Friday), No Spill Blood on an action-packed night in Saint Yorda upstairs in Whelan’s (Saturday) and an extraordinary night of post-classical drama in The Sugar Club with The Transcendentalists (Sunday – two shows).
