Capital Capers and Elsewhere Escapades May 23rd-May 29th

The Bad Plus

Genius jazz outcasts (apparently) The Bad Plus are in the National Concert Hall on Saturday as part of an arts-funded tour that will see the terrific trio perform Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. For those passionate about live music, any chance to catch Ethan, Reid and David perform – be it the work of long dead 20th century composers or the theme tune to Bosco – is one not to be spurned.

The Button Factory has quite a loud bill in store later tonight with Californian doom demigods Sleep accompanied by Wizards Of Firetop Mountain and A Storm of Light for a ferocious feast of eardrum-deadening metal.

Original raconteur Brendan Benson takes to the stage in the same venue the following night (Thursday) as Giant Sand visionary Howe Gelb delights all in attendance in Whelan’s with tunes taken from his vast back catalogue.

Other highlights include a night of electro fun in The Sugar Club with David Kitt (and lots more) on Friday, Ozric Tentacles on Saturday (Whelan’s) and David Pajo (Papa M/Aerial M) in The Workman’s Club (Sunday). It certainly does not stop there though as you can see by the bulging listings belly on display below!
