Cork Gig Guide (June 18th – June 24th)

Bats – The Pavilion, 23rd June

The Richter Collective‘s Bats team up with local lotharios Terriers for the pick of the bunch over the next seven days.
The Pavilion this saturday with free entry is the place to be as the Dublin post-rockers infectious energy should be aptly supported by Cork’s own Terriers whose who frenetic live show is quite something.

The latest Bandicoot show takes up half the week in The Crane Lane on Phoenix Street with preacher’s son Reverend Deadeye taking up residency later tonight (18th June) with a three night display of solo delta blues virtuosity.

Barely a mention of Ger Wolfe’s Thursday night visit to Macurtain Street’s The LV underlines his truly understated status as he plays as part of Jimmy Crowley’s regular folk club meetings. For those who want to see a pure folk artisan at work, get bums on seats for this intimate sitting with one of Ireland’s most gifted songsters. The same night will see a worthy charity benefit in aid of suicide awareness taking place in UCC and will feature loads of different bands. Placed perfectly (geographically speaking that is) between the aforementioned is Brisbane’s Ben Salter who will treat all in attendance in The Roundy to tunes from 2011’s The Cat and debut lo-fi rocker Megafauna

There is hardly a peep out of Cyprus Avenue on Caroline street these days but is set to host a battle-of-the-bands-type competition Friday night with the winner to perform at Indiependence Festival in Mitchelstown this August bank holiday weekend with London based folkies Yngve & The Innocent rounding off their ten date Irish tour in The Crane Lane Theatre.

UPDATE
A late addition to the gig listings is Cork’s own psychadelic rockers The Altered Hours who play The Bowery/Slate‘s rooftop garden on Sunday evening. Those Bowery folk are sneeeaky, they tell nobody and try keep all the good gigs for their own private parties! Harumph.
