Capital Capers and Elsewhere Escapades (July 4th-July 10th)

The third and final instalment of the now legendary Popical Island compilation will join us this Saturday with one hell of a shindig planned for the launch. From 2pm the super talented likes of Tieranniesaur, Land Lovers, Patrick Kelleher and more will invade Whelan’s on Wexford Street for the party to end all parties. The super fantastically smashing Little xs for eyes – who are on champagne bottle-smashing duties further south later this month as part of the inaugural The G-Man Presents… Roundy showcase (see here for more) – are special guests on the night so definitely not one to miss. Side A of the Popical collection is streaming away via this link (go on – click it!)

Later this evening, Music Maker welcome instrumental jazz monster Rudder – all the way from New York – to the same venue (Whelan’s) before the various Phoenix Park events kick off tomorrow (Thursday) with The Stone Roses, Florence & The Machine and more all set for a big pop-party in the park. That same day also marks the beginning of urban arts festival 10 Days in Dublin‘s heavily-populated programme which includes a bundle of great music events. See the full programme over on the official website here.

In what is another busy week ahead on the gig front highlights also include electro vixen Gretta Gunn The Grand Social, the unstoppable rollercoaster ride that will be No Spill Blood and LaFaro Whelan’s (both Thursday), a Saturday night Project Arts Centre gig that is definitely worth a punt and the fascinating combination of Nite Jewel and Katie Kim in The Grand Social (Tuesday).
