Cork Gig Guide – Weekly Rundown (July 2nd-July 8th)

Pine Hill Haints – Crane Lane Friday 6th July

Jesus H. Christ Cork what does a guy have to do to get a rest these days? Oodles and oodles of fleshy buxom gigs are again lined up for the week ahead on Leeside, including two gigs of the week fortunately for the 9-5ers, they fall on Friday and Saturday night.

Plugd Records i.e. the eventual destination of my monthly wage and fellow Cork-based blogger The Point of Everything team forces to bring potent purveyors of anti-pop We Are Losers and post-punk princes Girl Band. A particular fondness for the latter exists on this blog – although the jib cut from the former is much appreciated also – who make an appearance at Mitchelstown’s Indiependence soirée later this “Summer”.

Alabamian honky-tonk brilliance from Pine Hill Haints is on The Crane Lane menu the night before in what is a must-see adventure in southern bluegrass exploits.

Midweek is a bit quiet but congolese dance music is on the cards Tuesday with The Lace also on Phoenix Street. A rare original set on Oliver Plunkett Street will see those lovely Windings fellas on entertainment duty in An Bróg while the Papenfuss brothers sort out Caroline Street i.e. Relish are in Cyprus Avenue. Both on Thursday.

There is also quite a hectic end to the week with lots of choice on Sunday. Former Special Jerry Dammers is in The Crane, The Pavilion on Carey’s Lane host an entire night of electronica and Hat Fitz & Cara Robinson make the trip to Clonakilty.

*Movie lovers should begin the week at the Triskel Arts Centre‘s IFI-programmed cinema, screening movies Sunday-Wednesday. Moonrise Kingdom & Being Elmo are this week’s movies.
