Cork Gig Guide (1st October-7th October)
Excited? Well you should be as Friday sees The Great Balloon Race and Hello Moon, two of Ireland’s most exciting new bands team up for what is sure to be another memorable The G-Man Presents… showcase. The week opens in The Crane Lane with the big sounds of The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band who return for another late show on Phoenix Street while Cian Nugent and Gunn Truscinski Duo (U.S.) team up (literally) to become Desert Heat for an engaging midweek performance in Gulpd.
The majority of the weekend relinquishes centre stage to the 2012 Cork Folk Festival with definite highlights coming in the fretboard-wheelin’ folk artistry of The Mandolas in Cyprus Avenue on Friday and the legendary Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick in The Pavilion on Saturday.
Hiding amongst the imaginary heathers on Caroline Street will be the vastly underrated Gemma Hayes who will wow all and sundry in Cyprus Avenue come Saturday evening. The Tipperary tunesmith never fails to impress in a live setting.
The responsibility of rounding off the week falls to Dublin three-piece Elevens who play a FREE show in The Bowery‘s roofgarden.
