Capital Capers : Top 10 Dublin gigs for November

Even the icy cool of November will struggle to freeze the burning hot line-up awaiting our capital city this month.
It was a real battle to pick out a top 10 again this month with many moments pondered over whether to extend the post to a top 20 but that would just be cheating. So here we are, my top ten recommended gigs to attend for the brisk Winter month month that is November.List ordered by date rather than preference.

1. Mark Kozelek
When?: Wednesday, 7th November
Where?: Button Factory
How much?: €15
Why?: The former Red House Painters visionary struggles to do any wrong in my eyes. Twenty years of some of the most beautifully melancholic songs ever written will be on show on Wednesday night. Could not recommend more highly for folks who love a well constructed tune. Visit www.markkozelek.com for further details

2. Community of Independents Series 3 Launch featuring: Ten Past Seven, Bantum, Percolator, Wolfbait Croupier and Lethal Dialect
When?: Saturday, 10th November (6pm start)
Where?: Button Factory
How much?: FREE!
Why?: Six super Irish bands for the no-excuses price of zip. Visit Facebook for further details

3. Seti the First
When?: Saturday, 10th November
Where?: The Sugar Club
How much?: €12
Why?: Incredibly well orchestrated orgasms will have folks squirming in their seats with delight during Kevin Murphy and Thomas Haugh's stint in The Sugar Club. Debut album Melting Cavalry is one of the Irish records of the year. Experience it all live come November 10th. For a recent interview with Seti The First click here.

4. Bon Iver
When?: Monday, 12th November
Where?: The O2
How much?: €36.50-39.50
Why?: I struggled with including this as I am simply not sure how Bon Iver's folk rock will fit in the gargantuan O2. Something tells me I should have a little more faith though.

5. Rufus Wainwright
When?: Tuesday, 13th November
Where?: Vicar Street
How much?: €40-44
Why?: It's Rufus. Jeez do I have to go on and on...

6. Honningbarna
When?: Wednesday, 14th November
Where?: Whelan's (Upstairs)
How much?: €10
Why?: Because there just doesn't seem to be enough high-octane, punk rock gigs taking place anymore. Interview coming up on the blog soon.

7. Dirty Three
When?: Friday, 23rd November
Where?: Button Factory
How much?: €23
Why?: The legendary trio that is Dirty Three are truly a force of nature live. This one worth the entry alone just to stare in amazement at tireless frontman Warren Ellis.

8. The Richter Collective Closing Party with The Redneck Manifesto, Not Squares, Bats and more
When?: Saturday, 24th November
Where?: Button Factory
How much?: €15
Why?: Beloved Irish indie label The Richter Collective are calling it a day with a little help from some of their fretboard-flaying friends. Sure to be an emotional one.

9. First Aid Kit
When?: Sunday, 25th November
Where?: Vicar Street
How much?: €19
Why?: Caught the Söderberg sisters live for the first time back in September at End of the Road. Slightly tentative due to a fear of their music possibly being a little too nice I was delightfully proven wrong as Johanna and Klara flung themselves ferociously (and rather accurately) at every note. Vicar Street is made for First Aid Kit.

10. Little xs for eyes, Jonny Fun...& The Hesitations and A Dark Horse
When?: Friday, 30th November
Where?: The Workman's Club
How much?: €8
Why?: G-Man faves Little xs for eyes have not played a headliner in the capital in..well..way too long. Head along and scratch yourself bald trying to figure out why they are not headlining shows across Europe on a daily basis.
