Cork Gig Guide (8th April – 14th April)

We Arrive Alive – live…

It’s all about the midweek madness for the week commencing April 8th as the third The G-Man Presents… show of 2013 welcomes Dublin’s exhilarating instrumental sextet We Arrive Alive to The Pavilion for a FREE show that will also feature inimitable Cork foursome Une Pipe. This one takes place in the downstairs bar of the Carey’s Lane venue on Thursday evening. If WAA are half as good as they were in the Half Moon in November, then this one is not to be missed.

For those who prefer to wean their weary bones into the week then look away as Brooklyn indie quartet Fang Island open their European tour in the same venue. The Monday night double-bill will be shared with fellow Sargent Housers No Spill Blood (For an interview with NSB from early 2012 click here). For those riding high in energy levels, head on over to The Crane Lane for a midnight(ish) show with one-man bastion of blues, country and punk Scott H. Biram.

Northern post-rockers Kasper Rosa slam into Fred’s on Tuesday whilst The Empty Orchestra continue their run of experimental live soundtracks in accompaniment to legendary movies in The Roundy with the latest classic to receive the Empty treatment non other than Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Nick Rayner‘s Cambridge indie critters Farewell J.R. are upstairs in The Pavilion on Thursday before Cork rockers Ladydoll and The Vincent(s) team up to take on Cyprus Avenue on Friday night. On the other side of town that same night, folk-poppers The Hard Ground relaunch début record Broken Conversations – this time on Cork label FIFA Records – in the Half Moon Theatre. Devon folkster John Smith plays The Pavilion on Saturday night leaving beast of the banjo Al Scorch & His Country Soul Ensemble to tie up the week nicely with a midnight Crane Lane show on Sunday.

FREE GIG OF THE WEEK:
Monday: I’d feel guilty announcing another G-Man Presents… show as my own free gig of the week (Thursday folks, it’s Thursday!) so the honours of best gig at the very affordable price of €0 has to be Fang Island and No Spill Blood in The Pavilion. It’s mental that this one’s free in. Mental I tell you!

UPDATE
Post-rockers Chirps lead a great line-up to mount Barrack Street on Saturday evening in Bradley’s.
