Pine For Your Loved Ones 2013

Party in the Pines…

An “epic” time is promised down Myrtleville-way in just over a week’s time as the annual beach-bash returns to Pine Lodge for another year. With half-a-dozen of Ireland’s finest – and in some instances, weirdest – underground bands confirmed for the day-long rock-feast, and a bus ticket included in the very reasonable €12.50 ticket price, it should be another memorable Summer shindig in county Cork. Throw in the little fact that the venue overlooks one of the country’s most beautiful beaches and you have yourself one hell of a Saturday. For those who missed last year’s rowdy excursions, click here for a recap on Lodgefest 2012. Remember to pack those speedos!

*Bus leaves St. Patrick’s quay (Aircoach stop) at 4:30pm, and will return to the city at 1am from Pine Lodge. Tickets cost €12.50 (inclusive of bus and gig entry) and are available from Plugd Records. First band at 6pm and music over at approx. 11.30pm.

The line-up in full:

Who now?: The Maori John Wayne
From where now?: Who knows?!
What now?: Genre-bending, masked supergroup who may be as mad as a box of frogs but are quite something live.

Who now?: Hands Up Who Wants to Die
From where now?: Dublin
What now?: I’m not topping this description – “all angles and noise, edges and respite, razor riffs, visceral vocals, heinous hooks, yet on the face of it, as smooth as a mirror, as sheer as cliff-face”. Last time I caught them live, they blew my novelty-but-beloved muppet socks off and bloodied my earholes.

Who now?: Private Underground Residence
From where now?: Limerick/Cork
What now?: Don’t call them post-rock. Thinking it is fine though. Another live powerhouse.

Who now?: Bridges Of Madison County
From where now?: Dublin/Cork
What now?: Wonk-pop wizards with a new record on the way, rumoured to be titled Beastenders. Brilliant.

Who now?: Chirps
From where now?: Dublin/Mayo
What now?: Regular visitors to Cork, this will be the threesome’s first Pines adventure. Prepare for plenty of post-rock peaks.

Who now?: Terriers
From where now?: Cork
What now?: Take some screamlords from Leeside and ask them to play pop. Voila. C’est Terriers.
