My latest Plugd purchases were:

Quasi – Mole City

Dublin’s long since deceased Road Records pointed me in the vicinity of Portland duo Quasi back when this blog was still very much in its infancy. The frenetic American Gong would go on to feature in that year’s Top 10 records list but truth be told, there’s no record on there that I can genuinely say that I still listen to with such reckless teenage excitement. So it’s predecessor being one of my favourite albums of all time, Mole City has a lot of expectation weighing on its 24-track shoulders but initial listens point to Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss sending another ball straight out of the park. I love Quasi.

Julia Holter – Loud City Song

Two Dublin dates for unboxable LA soundshifter Julia Holter are on the horizon and none for Cork. Boo.

Agnes Obel – Aventine

Danish angel Agnes Obel may have been at the centre of one of those gigs that got away (when she played Triskel Christchurch a few years back I believe I was otherwise detained) but at least I had the fortune of seeing her play the slightly-less-fitting Marquee earlier that year as support for Fleet Foxes. The new record has only had the briefest of spins but a solitary listen points towards a more accomplished, confident sounding Obel on Aventine.
