Weekly Cork Gig Guide: 25th November-1st December

We/Or/Me
O Emperor

‘Tis cold down south but don’t let that stop you seeing some of these shows this week…

Irish-born Chicagoan songwriter Bahhaj Taherzadeh aka We/Or/Me was in town last weekend providing warm-up duties for Adrian Crowley and liked us all so much he’s back for another couple of dates. First stopping off out west for a De Barra’s date (Wednesday), before making his way towards the bright lights of the city with an intimate session planned for Mother Jones’ Flea Market (Thursday). Currently touring The Walking Hour, his second full-length release which features a guest appearance from cult English folk-queen Vashti Bunyan, Taherzadeh will be joined in the (just-off) MacCurtain Street market by soon-to-be-no-more Fred‘s Joe O’Leary (the band, not Joe. He’s doing fine) and Ronan’s Feat of Strength.

Clashes are the bane of our world and Thursday throws up a particular gut-puncher. Waterford-born yet Cork-adopted alt-rockers O Emperor kickstart a final Irish tour of 2013 with a visit to Cyprus Avenue on Thursday night. The foursome’s second record, O Vitreous, is set to appear high on plenty of end-of-year lists with the spacey follow up to début Hither Thither seeing the band spiral offroad into more cerebral psych-rock terrain. And expertly navigated I might add.

80’s alt-anthem champs The Chameleons take to Cyprus Avenue on Friday evening with the Mancunian quartet’s comeback showing no sign of slowing down while Texas-based multi-instrumentalist Gurf Morlix brings his country-folk to The Crane Lane for an early show on the following night.
