Weekly Cork gig guide: 25th-31st August 2015

Sally Dige (Saturday – Cyprus Avenue)
Lisa O’Neill (Thursday – Coughlan’s)

This week in Cork: Lisa O’Neill, Little Green Cars, Sally Dige, David Corley, 96/1, Horse and more.

Local promoters PingPong announced their return to the promotion racket last week with a string of gigs unveiled last including Danish-Canadian Sally Dige‘s show in Cyprus Avenue, a team-up with fellow promoters Stranger this Saturday. For further details, click here.

There’s a double-header for Douglas Street on Thursday that should have folk fans a-frolicking in the streets as Cavan’s own Lisa O’Neill joins forces with Mayo man – and past G-Man presents… performer – Seamus Fogarty. This one is in Coughlan’s of course.

It’s been a long time coming but Indiana songwriter David Corley‘s début long player Available Light arrived late last year after thirty years in the making, the Lafayette native showing that it’s never too late to get that first record out of you. Corley’s been making fans the length and breadth of the country culminating in a five date Irish tour ending in Coughlan’s on Sunday evening.

Irish chart-toppers Little Green Cars are back for the last week of the very well received Live At St. Luke’s series of shows  St. Luke’s Church. For an interview with the band’s Stevie Appleby from 2014 ahead of Saturday night’s show read here. For those who like it a little heavier, local hardcore heroes Horse punk up Triskel TDC that same night with a line-up also featuring Rory Francis O’Brien and MulliganMulliganMulligan. For the full event details click here.

Torontonian indie kids Running Red Lights play two dates this weekend beginning with a stripped-down version of the band in Sin É on Saturday evening before a full band set in The Crane Lane Theatre late on Sunday night.

Last but not least, expect Alabama ghost music from The Pine Hill Haints, also in Crane Lane, late again on Monday night. Also keep an eye out for 96 free gigs across the city thanks to 96/1, a brand new city wide festival promoting unsigned music. For the venue/artist breakdown see the timetable here.
