Weekly Cork gig guide: 1st-7th September 2015

The Delines (Thursday, Coughlans)

This week in Cork: Lee Fields & The Expressions, The Delines, The Hard Ground and more.

Quantity is a lot lower than usual on the gig front this week but the quality is through the roof as two very different, equally outstanding, international touring bands roll into town. Novelist and Richmond Fontaine leader Willy Vlautin’s country-soul crew, The Delines, mosey into town on Thursday evening. Fans of the band should know they come armed with a touring record, Scenic Sessions, that can only be bought on tour so expect lots of songs from that mixed with tunes from debut album Colfax. Read an interview I did with Willy in the Echo on Thursday. Then head into Coughlan’s later that night to catch them do their thing.

Speaking of soul, does any man have more than Lee Fields? The man who captured Cork hearts with an emotion exploding exorcism at last year’s Jazz Festival will know what I mean. See the man and his Expressions in Cyprus Avenue on Sunday.
