Cork Gig Guide: 24th-30th November 2015

June Tabor – ECM Weekend, Triskel

This week in Cork: ECM Weekend, Hands Up Who Wants To Die, Ye Vagabonds, Carried By Waves and more.

The last weekend in November welcomes the inaugural ECM Weekend Festival to the hallowed halls of Triskel Christchurch. Featuring performances from prestigious players such as Arve Henriksen, John Potter, Iain Ballamy (2014 interview on this blog with Ian here), June Tabor and Thomas Strønen will be the focusof the weekend complemented by ECM film screenings, chats on the sofa with Irish Times columnist Jim Carroll and an Ergodos fringe concert presented by Plugd Records, featuring Irish musicians Seán Mac Erlaine, Linda Buckley and more.

Elsewhere, three-time Grammy nominee Joan Armatrading pays her last ever visit to Cork, with Thursday’s Opera House appearance part of the singer’s last ever world tour, which just so happens to be her first solo one also. For those looking for something slightly heavier get yourself across to the other side of the side for Hands Up Who Wants To Die in Fred Zeppelin’s. Folks will be allowed in but folk will not be tolerated.

For those about early on Saturday afternoon, free up some time to pay a visit to Cork School of Music at about 2.30pm in order to enjoy the welcomed return of Cork electro/prockers Carried By Waves.
