Cork Gig Guide: 1st-7th March

Hamell On Trial

This week in Cork: Hamell on Trial, Albert Hammond, Dónal Lunny & Paddy Glackin, Marc O’Reilly, Damsel, Hounds of Finn and more…

Fleet fingered, sardonic social commentator and father of anti-folk, Hamell On Trial comes to Coughlan’s for a midweek show on Thursday. Described as “Bill Hicks, Hunter S. Thompson and Joe Strummer, expect the brain, heart and funny muscles to be flexed and stretched throughout the evening. Wexford slide-player Clive Barnes supports.

For those more into their straight-up trad look no further than a trip out east to Sirius Arts Centre where legendary Bothy Band boyos Dónal Lunny & Paddy Glackin entertain all and sundry down Cobh way.

Speaking of legends, the revitalised Albert Hammond and his deceptively large songbook are back in Cork for another two dates in Cork Opera House (Wednesday and Thursday) whilst blues-rock player Marc O’Reilly returns home to Ireland fresh faced following a recent stint at European music showcase Eurosonic. Cork’s own Carpool Conversation will open in Cyprus Avenue on Saturday.
