Cork Gig Guide: 17th-23rd May 2016

This week in Cork: Live at St. Luke’s, The Shaker Hymn, Rubyhorse, Joey Ryan, Jinx Lennon and more…

All the focus is on homegrown folk this weekend as the latest leg of the Live at St. Luke’s series returns for an Acoustic Weekend. Featuring storytellers such as Jimmy Crowley, John Spillane and Declan O’Rourke, the gigs are spread out across Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For ticket details, visit www.liveatstlukes.com. Sticking with Irish talent, Joey Ryan launches his new album in Coughlan’s on Thursday evening. Listen to Joey playing a couple of songs from Fall Through The Night on The Cork Music here. Reformed Cork band Rubyhorse rock Clonakilty’s De Barra’s that very same night before playing a sold out Ballincollig show in The White Horse the following evening.

Cork indie quartet The Shaker Hymn continue their Irish tour by taking in two county Cork dates with a meet-up in Myrtleville first (Pine Lodge, Saturday) before heading to Levis’ on Sunday night. For those looking for something a little more off-centre, why not head to The Kino on Washington Street to take in the words and wisdom of Jinx Lennon and Wasps Vs. Humans on Saturday night.

Also going down around town this week:

  • U.S. producer and DJ Steve Aoki in Cork Opera House (Wednesday)
  • Cork Improvised Music Club continue their May residency in Gulpd (Thursday)
  • Celtic ballad singer Connie Dover accompanied by Skip Gorman in Coughlan’s (Friday)
