Cork Gig Guide: 11th-17th April

Ryley Walker (Coughlan’s, Monday)
This week in Cork: Ryley Walker, Brigid Mae Power, Marlene Enright, Lankum (Lynched), Katie Kim & more…

Go easy on the chocolate eggs of sugary joy this Easter as there is a lot of live music to consume. An obvious personal highlight of the week is Ryley Walker‘s full band show in Coughlan’s on the bank holiday Monday, a show that has been sold out for some time. Brigid Mae Power and Peter Broderick‘s addition to the bill makes this one of my favourite The G-Man presents… line-ups to date. For those who missed out on tickets, Ryley will be sticking around Cork City on the following Tuesday for a solo show in Gulpd, again joined by Brigid Mae Power. This is limited capacity, so pick up tickets from eventbrite now to avoid disappointment on the night.

Folk-punk foursome Lynched, recently rebranded as Lankum, play a special Easter Sunday show up in St. Luke’s with a whole night of music planned for the village. With Katie Kim on warm-up duties in the St. Luke’s church, live music kicks off across the road with Anth Kaley and Lynda Cullen kickstarting proceedings with tunes in new cafe Rant from 4pm with colourful folkies Sillk playing a set in the Wine Vault across the road at 6pm. Donal Dineen spins the discs from 10.30pm in Henchy’s, rounding off a pretty outstanding night in St. Luke’s. For a 2015 interview with Lankum click here.

*Marlene Enright
Thursday 13th April | Coughlan’s | 9pm, €12

Cork’s own Marlene Enright takes to touring duties this month in promotion of debut solo album ‘Placemats and Second Cuts which hits shelves – both virtual and physical – on 24th March. Having ended 2016 with an appearance at RTÉ’s Other Voices get-together down in Dingle, The Hard Ground singer and pianist’s folk-pop stylings see her profile continue to rise, with new single ‘123’ regularly popping up on national radio.
