Cork Gig Guide: 18th-24th April

Ryley Walker (Gulpd, Tues/De Barras, Wed)
This week in Cork: Ryley Walker, Brigid Mae Power, The Bonk, Shawn James, Joey Dosik, We Cut Corners & more…

Ryley Walker‘s full band show in Coughlan’s was completely sold out as we went to press/post for last week’s Cork gig guide and the same can now be said for tonight’s Gulpd which will feature a solo performance from very special guest Brigid Mae Power. Brigid’s new LP, The Ones You Keep Close, a collection of old/not-so-new re-recorded tracks released as a limited run on Oscarson, might be available on the night, assuming there are some left! For those who didn’t manage to get tickets for the Cork City shows, make sure and head to De Barra’s on Wednesday evening where Ryley will be playing a full band show.

Another Chicagoan takes to Coughlan’s on Tuesday evening as soul-folk singer Shawn James makes his bow in the Douglas Street venue whilst soul of a more polished kind comes in the form of of L.A. pianist Joey Dosik in Cyprus Avenue on Wednesday night. 70’s rock-stompers The Bonk, led by Phil Christie of O Emperor, take a spin down to Leap on Wednesday before playing a cosy show with Patrick Freeman in Coughlan’s on Thursday night.

The weekend belongs to Choice Music Prize-nominated duo We Cut Corners who play Cyprus Avenue (Saturday) and Brooklyn proto-punks Frankie Sunswept and Moselle Spiller, aka Crushed Out, who visit Crane Lane (Sunday).

Also going down around town this week:

  • Dijon Babes & Slyrydes in Crane Lane (Thursday)
  • The Vincent(s) in Cyprus Avenue (Friday)
  • Kalikah‘s album launch in Firkin Crane (Sunday)
