Cork Gig Guide: 25th-1st May

Percolator – Coughlan’s (Friday)
This week in Cork: Percolator, Right Here Right Now Festival,The Handsome Family, Joan Shelley & more…

*Percolator & The Sunshine Factory
Friday 28th April | Coughlan’s | 8pm, €10

Prepare for the perpetual Krautrock pummellings of Percolator who roll their blend of shoegaze and industrial rock ‘n’ roll into Coughlan’s at the end of the month. The Dublin-based trio of Ian, Spud and Ellie will have just released new record Sestra on Cork indie label Penske Recordings earlier that month thus providing the perfect opportunity to hear the new songs up close and personal. The Sunshine Factory support.

*Right Here, Right Now
From banging R&B and indie rock to balladeers backed by lush orchestral arrangements, Right Here, Right Now will showcase both the quality and diversity of the current Cork music scene. From Friday 28th April until Sunday 30th April, Cork Opera House – in association with Coughlan’s Live Promotions – will cater for three different stages of Cork-based music from Jack O’Rourke, Anna Mitchell (both backed by Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra), Shookrah, Mick Flannery, The Shaker Hymn and more. Full details on Right Here Right Now can be found here.

*Ballydehob Jazz
It may be a small village in West Cork, but they’ve always got something brewing down in the ‘Hob. Over 5,000 revellers descended upon Ballydehob for last year’s Jazz jamboree, and this year’s no different as bands flock from far-off to the west. Swing jazz from Vilnius (Home Jazz Band) and punk vocals meets charismatic horn-blower from the States (Stephanie Nilles & Thomas Deakin) provide the international sweetener for this year’s festival, running Friday 28th April-Monday 1st May.
