Cork Gig Guide: 23rd May-29th May

This week in Cork: New Jackson, Ailbhe Reddy, So Far Sounds & more…

David Kitt’s New Jackson is charged with closing the curtains on the month of May with an album launch show in The Bowery as part of the May edition of Sunday Times! This is the official Cork launch of NJ’s double LP From Night to Night so expect to be groovin’ and shapin’ until the early hours.

CSN’s year culminates in Song Factory, with music, management and sound students taking to the Granary to perform each other’s songs on Tuesday night while CIMC welcomes Meds (Muireann Levis, Ellen King, Dan Walsh) and Nonsleep (Patrick Cullen and Underling) to Gulpd for an evening of improvised treats on Wednesday. Cork folk supergroup SomeRiseSome Fall – featuring Hank Wedel, Ger Wolfe, Annette Buckley, Martin Leahy & Edel Sullivan – launch their debut album SomeClimb in Coughlan’s on Thursday night ahead of a Friday night double-header in the same spot from up and coming folkies Ailbhe Reddy and Maria Kelly, with big things expected for both, on the national and international front. Another secret show from surprise gig collective So Far Sounds takes place – somewhere – that same night (Friday).

Film fans make their way west with Fastnet Short Film Festival descending upon Schull for another year beginning on Wednesday. Gig goers take note of Crash Ensemble‘s sundown show Saturday. For full details visit www.fastnetfilmfestival.com.
