Cork Gig Guide 30th May – 5th June

Fixity (Thursday)

This week in Cork: Fixity, Magic Pockets, Inni-K, festivals & more…

Dan Walsh’s Fixity take to Gulpd’s intimate café room on Thursday night whilst Penske label partner Magic Pockets does the same on Friday. Talk about an incendiary introduction to a bank holiday weekend. Otherwise it’s all about festivals. Electronica, soul, rock, pop. You name it, Cork has it going on this June Bank Holiday weekend!

Open Ear
Music festivals instigate the perfect opportunity to break away from reality but few go as far as to whisk escapees away on a ferry to a secluded island for the weekend. Specialising in the electronic and experimental variety, Open Ear first invaded Sherkin Island in 2016 and is back with a whole new box of tricks from Friday 2nd June until Sunday 4th June. Turntablists and sound manipulators on the bill for 2017 include Magic Pockets, Cáit, Dreamcycles, Naive Ted and Fixity.

Soul in the City
MacCurtain Street may be all jazz hands and tinkling ivories in autumn, but in summer its set up for some smooth soul. From Friday 2nd June until Sunday 4th June, Soul in the City welcomes Karen Underwood, Stevie G, Velvin Lamont, Gemma Sugrue, Buck Taylor & more to multiple venues spreading from The Cornerhouse on Coburg Street, to Gallagher’s, Cask and White Rabbit on MacCurtain Street stretching up Summerhill North towards St. Luke’s Church.
