This post exists for no particular reason other than this tune from The Cosmopolitans is absolutely bonkers brilliant and completely unknown to me until earlier this week. In fact, I’d no knowledge of The Cosmopolitans whatsoever until I read a recent NY Times article, 12 Forgotten Classics by Women-Led New Wave Bands. An explosion of irreverent energy, Jamie K. Sims, Nel Moore, and Leslie Levinson’s North Carolina trio ripped into the New York new wave scene from 1980-1982. Watch the video for ‘(How to Keep Your) Husband Happy’ below, described by Kathleen Geier in 2014 as:
“a demented delight: think feminist B-52s. Apparently, the lyrics are based on an exercise record from the late 1950s that actually existed, and that was owned by the mother of the band’s frontwoman, Jamie K. Sims.”
