Coughlans sessions on the way…

Cork venue puts government funding to work with local artists

A good news story for the arts at last! Keep an ear out for updates from Coughlans, one of Cork’s favourite live music venues. Made possible by recent government funding for the Live Venue Collective (LVC), the Douglas Street bar spent a recent weekend recording in-person performances with Cork musicians such as Anna Mitchell, Jack O’Rourke, The Shaker Hymn and more. These sessions will be made available in a format to be confirmed. Check in here for updates.

Live Venue Collective

With the arts stranded in such a fragile moment, funding was imperative to keep our beloved venues open and artists supported. Founded in order to raise awareness & strengthen support for live venues during the global COVID-19 pandemic, the LVC is a “collective of 23 music venues that have come together with the sole aim of giving voice and representation to all the small rooms and independent stages that are bones, lungs, heart and soul of the Irish music industry.”

In early November, the LVC announced it had successfully applied for funding to the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, a vital support during the lockdown which “will directly support and pay artists, technicians, promoters and venue staff to do what they do so well in our small music rooms and stages throughout the country.”
