3 Artist Recommendations for Bandcamp Friday

Following Bandcamp’s announcement that they would continue Bandcamp Fridays in support of artists, consider three personal recommendations ahead of 7th August.

Cormac Begley
If any sound has eased me through lockdown it’s the vaulting euphoria emitted by west Kerryman Cormac Begley’s concertina. Add to that my obsession with Slí na mBeaglaoich his TG4-documented roadtrip along the west coast of Ireland with his father Brendan to arrive at a definite contender come 7th August.

PowPig
June saw Limerick’s PowPig release a brand new track through the celebrated Out On a Limb Records label. A soothing swim through the clouds, Intellectual sees the quartet in a more reflective mood. The album just can’t come quickly enough. All money made from the single on Bandcamp will be split between the band’s local ICU (University Hospital Limerick) and MASI, a charity devoted to the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland.

Sorcha Richardson
Dublin’s Sorcha Richardson disappeared from our ears to study in Brooklyn to triumphantly return to release Choice Music Prize-nominated debut record First Prize Bravery in 2019. Emerging from the depths of lockdown with a brand new EP, isolation home recordings features reconstructions of a number of tracks from last year’s album.

Since March, fans have bought more than $75 million worth of music and merch directly from artists and labels, and to date, fans have paid artists over half a billion dollars on Bandcamp. Bandcamp will continue to hold Bandcamp Fridays on the first Friday of every month until the end of the year. Note the dates:
