The Reich Effect : Celebrating 75 Years of Steve Reich

Wednesday night (July 27th) will see the Cork leg of Steve Reich’s 75th birthday celebrations kick off in the Cork Opera House with a screening of Phase To Face, the new movie focusing on the Pulitzer Prize Winner’s career which has at this stage surpassed forty years.

The screening will then be followed by an interview with the great man himself as he tackles questions from our John Kelly.

Highlights of the week will include performances from Kronos Quartet in the Opera House on Thursday night (featuring an Irish premiere of Reich‘s WTC 9/11), RTÉ Concert Orchestra will perform works from Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead), Kjartan Sveinsson (Sigur Rós) and Nico Muhly (concentrating on the effect Steve Reich has had on the trio’s work) as well as work from the man himself in Cork City Hall on Friday, Denmark’s Efterklang  will perform on Saturday in The Savoy and Sunday will see the end of the celebrations with performances from Johann Johannsson in the beautiful Triskel Christchurch and Crash Ensemble back in the Opera House bringing proceedings to an end on a high.

The Reich Effect i.e. a musical feast laid on by Cork Opera House to mark the 75th year of Steve Reich, will run from Wednesday 27th July until Sunday 31st July with performances taking place in the Cork Opera House, The Savoy Theatre, Cork City Hall and The Firkin Crane.
