Cork Gig Guide (July 16th – July 22nd)

Little xs for eyes – The Roundy, 19th July

It’s finally here! The very first The G-Man Presents… showcase takes a bow on Castle Street as The David Nelligan Thing and little xs for eyes mix up a potent concoction of melodious ear candy in The Roundy.
The double-header takes place on Thursday, 19th July with tickets – priced at €6 – available on the door that night.

The rest of the week is pretty manic from start to finish beginning with the popular KC Sessions pays its monthly visit to The Crane Lane Theatre with another half dozen up and coming artists taking to the Phoenix Street stage.

The same venue welcomes travelling tunesmith Myles Manley and his little people on the following night (Tuesday) with support from one of the newest acts on the Cork live music scene, rock and roll drag demons The Vincents. On the other side of Oliver Plunkett Street, local practitioners of pop The Hard Ground officially crack open the bottle of champagne on the release of debut record Broken Conversations with a launch gig taking place in The Pavilion.

Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux’s new-wave bossanova covers machine, Nouvelle Vague, returns to Cyprus Avenue on Friday sure to raise a couple of temperatures with their take on 80’s punk and pop classics while Donal Dineen brings special guest Patrick Kelleher to the Half Moon Theatre as part of his travelling Something, Something, Something shows.

The rock ‘n’ roll train pulls into clash-central on Saturday night with Lodgefest 2012 hosting some of Cork’s finest musicians out in Myrtleville, taking over from the legendary yet now defunct Party in the Pines get-togethers which have taken place in Pine Lodge over the past few years. Buses are heading from the city so link on over to the FB event here for more info on that particular situation. For those not travelling at the weekend, there is still a plethora of talent on show with The Fall – plus support from the amazing Trumpets of Jericho – in The Pav and one of Ireland’s brightest shining lights Katie Kim performing in the rejuvenated Half Moon Theatre.

And……rest. Until next week begins of course.
