Windings to reopen The Kino

The Kino café and venue to open its doors…

Limerick lads Windings have been charged with cracking the alcohol-free champagne bottle on June 21st, the night The Kino finally reopens its newly repainted doors in Cork. The former arthouse cinema will be reborn as Leeside’s only all-ages venue and café with a trio of Irish bands confirmed for the Washington Street building’s opening night. The Legionnaires, Waking Up Sunday and headliners Windings all take to the stage on Friday evening with doors open from 6.30pm. It’s great to see a combination of grizzled veterans and rosy-cheeked up-and-comers announced for what will hopefully become a mainstay in the Cork music scene, allowing an avenue for under-agers to take to the stage and build up some indispensable gigging experience as well as introducing established acts to a younger audience. It’s also hopeful that steps may be taken away from the traditional synonymity of live music and alcohol in Ireland. I love a drink or two but, depending on the genre of course, it’s hard to beat an intimate café or theatre gig.
