Cork gig guide: 21st July-10th August

Dream Wife – Mother Jones’ (24th July)

These next few weeks in Cork: Balanescu Quartet, Willie Watson, Dream Wife, Indiependence and more.

Right – I’m blowing this pop-stand for a few weeks to visit my little* brother on the other side of the globe so I’m bumper-izing the gig guide for those thirsty for lapping up some live music in the summer sun. Keep your eyes peeled for any additions that were not announced as we went to post.

For film fans the tail-end of the Triskel‘s Punk on Film continues on 21st and 22nd July before turntable titan Naive Ted hits The Roundy with Spekulativ Fiction on Thursday (23rd July). Make sure to squeeze into the Castle Street venue early as it gets crammed in there but a great spot for a sweaty summer show.

One show I’m certainly sore over missing is Icelandic trio Dream Wife, who bring their brand of “poolside pop” to Mother Jones Flea Market on 24th July. Make it to MacCurtain Street, enjoy the show and fill me in on the details when I return. Festival season reaches fever pitch down south as Indiependence descends upon Deer Farm for another year of music, mayhem and madness. Basement Jaxx, The Dandy Warhols, Jape, Mark Lanegan and more mix it up in Mitchelstown for three days spanning 31st July to the 2nd August.

As Indie ’15 ambles into August, we tip our hats to a very welcome addition to the live music scene as a series of St. Luke’s Church concerts get underway. Anglo-Romanian string sensation Balanescu Quartet pay visit on the 7th August. Classical reconstructions of Kraftwerk in a church? Yes please! Cork foursome Hags officially launch new single ‘On Return’ in Cyprus Avenue on 8th August before founding Old Crow Medicine Show man Willie Watson is back in Coughlan’s on 9th August.
