Cork gig guide: 13th-19th October 2015

Cheval Sombre – Saturday, Cobh

This week in Cork: Cheval Sombre, Mutoid Man, No Spill Blood, Old Hannah and more.

Gone are the days of a live music lull in the weeks running up to the Cork Jazz Festival with lots to get your tune-lovin’ teeth into over the coming seven days. Top of the pile is surely a trip to Cobh as Cheval Sombre accepts an invite to Sirius Arts Centre from those lovely Fractured Air fellas who continue to delight and amaze with their bookings. In Cheval Sombre‘s Christopher Porpora’s own words “the show will offer a look into the stark essence of the songs, stripped-down so to speak, as it will be acoustic and solo, favour of an intimate experience, which is increasingly rare in such times.” To make it even more memorable, the bill also features Adelaide singer and multi-instrumentalist Margie Lewis.

Earlier in the week it’s off to Caroline Street as New York rock trio Mutoid Man (featuring members of Cave In and Converge) and Irish synth-metal men No Spill Blood team up to rampage through Cyprus Avenue on Wednesday evening. Bring ear-plugs. And a crash helmet.
