Cork Gig Guide: 13th-19th September

This Is How We Fly – Friday

This week in Cork: Culture Night, Alexis Taylor, Brigid Mae Power, Clonakilty’s International Guitar Festival & more…

Long time no gig guide! Well enough with the weepy eyes, let’s get cracking as a busy week lies in store for gig-going Corkonians.
The increasingly popular Culture Night is upon us again on Friday night with a personal highlight taking place in Sirius Arts Centre. Swedish folk-jazz drums and Appalachian tap dancing do not tick the boxes of a typical traditional rhythm section but This Is How We Fly is anything but conventional. Yet, the multinational quartet with an Irish core still manage to retain a sound of the familiar. An exhilarating live act, This Is How We Fly back-dropped by a blustery Cobh harbour is not to be missed.

Those itching for a weekend road trip then wind your way towards West Cork as Clonakilty’s International Guitar Festival returns for a full weekend of rock ‘n’ roll shows with 90% of the concerts scheduled between 15th-18th September FREE. Sydney alt-folk quartet All Our Exes Live in Texas‘s harmony-laden songs are a must catch on Sunday afternoon, following an all-action sweatfest for The Rednecks on Sunday night of course. See the full programme over on clonguitarfest.com.

Once you’re on the road that day maybe take a swing across to Cobh, for very good reason. Continuing on their absorbing array of gigs, Sirius Arts Centre welcome the wonderful talents of Brigid Mae Power who will showcase songs from latest album I Told You The Truth with support from Brumes.

Did I even mention that Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and D.A.R.K. (featuring Dolores O’Riordan & Andy Rourke) will be in Cyprus Avenue this weekend? No? Well they will be. Friday and Saturday respectively. Now go and get your tickets and support your local music scene.
