Cork Gig Guide: 2nd May-8th May

The Great Balloon Race
This week in Cork: The Great Balloon Race, Saint Caoilian, Mary Ocher & more…

Late spring/early summer is a good time for opening your ears to new sounds and the next seven days in Cork gives gig goers a good chance to feast on new Cork releases. Both The Great Balloon Race and Saint Caoilian tussle it out on Friday evening with both releasing new records – Gently Gently album and The Faraway EP respectively. Fortunately, the latter show starts a little earlier with doors for the Saint Caoilian (the solo project of The Shaker Hymn‘s Caoilian Sherlock) gig in Cyprus Avenue unlocking at 8pm at least an hour ahead of TGBR in Coughlan’s.

The other top tips for the week come courtesy of the international community with Moscow-born experi-popster Mary Ocher visiting Gulpd, also on Friday night, and folk-lovin’ friends must get their bodies to Cyprus Avenue for Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, with the award-winning Rough Trade duo playing a Sunday evening set to nicely round off the week.

Also going down around town this week:

  • Reciprocity in Triskel Christchurch (Thursday)
  • Electro session The Electronic Folk w/ Circuits of Heaven in Long Valley (Thursday)
  • Interskalactic EP launch in Crane Lane (Saturday)
