Weekly Cork gig guide: 18th-24th August 2015

Deerhoof (Cyprus Avenue – Tuesday)
Ryley Walker (Gulpd – Wednesday)
Peanut Butter Wolf (Cyprus Avenue – Friday)

This week in Cork: Deerhoof, Ryley Walker, Peanut Butter Wolf, Si Schroeder and more.

For those looking forward to a quiet week, now is the time to avert your eyes as this week’s listings are bulging at the seams with gigs and they start early, beginning with noise-pop ‘n’ rollers Deerhoof‘s Tuesday stopover in Cyprus Avenue. Still smashing it 21 years after their formation, La Isla Bonita is the San Fran foursome’s thirteenth and latest record so expect lots of songs from the 2014 album.

Chilling it out a little on Wednesday in Gulpd Café will be Ryley Walker with extracts from the excellent Primrose Green, released earlier this year. Just listen to those guitar strings purr on the title track.

So that’s two of the best gigs the city has seen in 2015 and we’ve barely crept past the hump. Friday throws up a few clashes so make a decision early. Out east sees Si Schroeder visit Sirius Arts Centre for the latest edition in a series of super shows down Cobh way which also features Second Moon of Winter on the bill. Get the train and run then for mixmaster Chris Manak a.k.a. Peanut Butter Wolf‘s late set in Cyprus Avenue. Founder of the legendary Stones Throw Records (Madlib, J Dilla, J Rocc), the Californian producer’s visit has many a hip-hop fan in a tizzy so grab tickets early.
